MQ Skills Development Program

The Macquarie University Skills Development Program provides students with a strong framework in developing a sound understanding of key employability skills that are essential in the workforce. It is delivered by the Career Development Consultant team as part of the University's employability strategy. In this program, participants will deepen their theoretical and practical knowledge of six key employability skills areas: • Self-awareness | Growth and Adaptive Mindset | Emotional Intelligence • Teamwork | Collaboration • Communication • Critical Thinking • Creativity | Innovation • Problem-solving. This program is delivered through two on-campus and two online workshops based on the flipped classroom approach. Students will be required to review learning materials online ahead of each workshop. Also, they will be creating learning materials and resources in preparation of the workshops and familiarise themselves with a suite of new concepts, skills, and employability themes. During each of the four workshops, students will apply their new knowledge in a practical setting (team-based activities). Learning activities include self-directed online learning, live workshops, and four reflections (300 words each). Upon their successful completion, students will be able to: • explain why employers are seeking graduates with employability skills • explain how they have developed their employability skills in the six key skill areas • demonstrate evidence of their development and application in the six key skill areas in an ePortfolio • demonstrate evidence of their development and application in one additional skill from the MQ Skills Development Guide with an articulation on their rationale for their selection. Total volume of learning is 20 hours.
