Description
This microcredential is delivered in a multi-modal fashion, with an online component and an in-person component, conducted either at Macquarie University or at the participating organisation's workplace. In this microcredential, participants will be challenged to question their worldview and current understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, cultures, histories, and knowledges.
Narrated from an Aboriginal perspective, this training takes participants on a journey of truth-telling to provide a broad understanding of Australian history, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and knowledges, and the barriers that have been put in place that have acted to diminish the self-determination, and sovereignty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, at the hands of the settler colonial agenda. This training recognises and celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples resilience and acknowledges that their sovereignty was never ceded.
This training expands on ways we can all move forward, displaying and portraying appropriate ways to engage, connect, and work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Through the interactive sessions and assessments, participants will consolidate their learnings and develop strategies, rooted in social responsibility, that they can implement in their workplace to ensure they are taking steps toward positive change and cultural safety.
Learning Outcomes
Completion of this training will provide the recipient with a foundation to develop intercultural understandings of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges, cultural values, histories and contemporary realities and perspectives, confidence in establishing appropriate and sustainable relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities, the ability to contribute to societal change management impacting on the development of strengths-based attitudes and societies free of racism and discrimination.

Delivery details
This microcredential is delivered in a multimodal fashion, with both online and in-person learning required. The online component includes the learning materials, composed of readings, short videos, and mini-knowledge checks, and multiple online interactive debrief sessions with our training facilitators designed for participants to ask questions and enter meaningful, respectful discussions. The in-person component is a mandatory final debrief session and can either be delivered on-site at your organisation, or on campus at Macquarie University by our training facilitators. The final debrief session offers participants the chance to consolidate their learning by entering group discussions with a workshop-style session.
Volume of Learning
The online self-paced learning component is composed of 6 hours’ worth of content, with an additional 1 hour dedicated to weekly debrief sessions (depending on the training package arrangements made by your organisation). The in-person session is the mandatory final debrief session, and this goes for a duration of 3 hours. (i.e., 6 < Hours online and 3 < hours in person, depending on the training package).
Activities
Online learning: readings, short videos, quizzes, mini-knowledge checks, and assessment tasks. In-person learning: Group work/in-class activities, group discussions, and class preparation.
Assessments
There are 2 assessments that need to be completed in order for participants to gain their microcredential. These are 2 written assessments, composed of 2 questions per assessment, requiring participants to write up to 200 words per question. Assessment 1 is conducted in week 1, and participants are required to complete this before they can continue with the training. Assessment 2 is conducted in week 6 and must be handed in no later than 1 week after the final debrief session. Failure to adhere to these requirements will result in participants not being able to complete the training and, therefore, not receive their microcredential.
