Managing the cash flow of a business is one of the Treasurer’s main roles. This requires the ability to understand the cash flow dynamics – particularly its growth and volatility – of the business and then design a financial strategy that best supports the business. This responsibility ranges from short-term cash management to long-term financial planning. This module explains how to analyse the cash flow dynamics of a business and assess the key cash flow risks to the business.
Upon successful completion of this module, participants will be able to:
1. analyse an organisation’s cash flow, and analyse the different dynamics of operating, investing, and financing cash flows;
2. prepare financial projections for an organisation which assess short, medium and longer term financial risks;
3. critically evaluate financial projections to assess their robustness and suitability for decision making; and
4. prepare recommendations concerning the funding requirements and risks in the short, medium and longer term.
