Description

This is the first of two foundational microcredentials underpinning lymphoedema management and focuses on the principles of lymphoedema assessment and treatment. In this microcredential, you will review the structure and physiology of the lymphatic system and the causes and consequences of lymphoedema. You will develop an understanding of the principles of comprehensive lymphoedema therapy including patient-centred assessment as well as the common treatment modalities of complex lymphoedema therapy (CLT) including manual lymphatic drainage massage, compression therapy, exercise prescription, education, psychological well-being and surgical management. This microcredential will contribute to your development of the Scientist and Scholar and Clinical Practitioner graduate capabilities. 

Learning Outcomes

The learning outcomes are aligned to the graduate capabilities. 

  1. Explain the anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system including principles of microcirculation (Scientist and Scholar) 

  2. Define and differentiate between types of oedemas (Scientist and Scholar) 

  3. Apply knowledge and skills to plan a comprehensive assessment for a person at risk of or living with lymphoedema (Clinical Practitioner) 

  4. Interpret assessment findings and use clinical reasoning to develop an evidence-based person-centred intervention plan (Clinical Practitioner)
