MQ Transition to Work Program

This microcredential is delivered by the Careers and Student Employment team as part of the MQ employability strategy. The MQ Transition To Work Program is targeted at final and penultimate-year students from all faculties and disciplines (domestic and international) and allows students to develop their employability and explore possible career options. The program is based on the flipped classroom approach, where students are required to review learning materials online ahead of each workshop. During each of the 5 workshops, participants apply their new knowledge in a practical setting. This program provides a strong framework for students to develop a personalised career plan, be able to prepare job application documents, feel confident and equipped to approach all stages of the selection process, develop a LinkedIn profile and understand what skills they have to offer a potential employer. Learning Outcomes At the completion of this transition program, students should be able to: • be aware of their key employability skills • know their value to employers and learn how to market themselves successfully to organisations • use effective job-seeking skills • learn how to prepare an effective application and know how to approach the stages of the selection process • gain practical workplace skills from interactive sessions • increase their confidence and competence • develop a dynamic career plan. Delivery Details: This program is delivered through 5 on-campus workshops. The workshops will be practical in nature (team-based activities). Students are required to prepare learning materials and resources ahead of the workshops and familiarise themselves with new concepts and employability themes. Students are also required to engage and attend 3 careers events such as careers workshops, employer presentations and / or a consult with a career advisor. • Activities: 5 Workshops and self-directed online learning • Assessment: (Students are required to submit short reflections (300 words each, not graded) • Hours / Volume of learning: 18 -20 hours
