This microcredential is delivered at Macquarie University by the Office of the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Learning and Teaching) as part of the University’s teaching development program. Beginning to Teach (BTT) is a professional development program that covers topics that are key to getting started with teaching at university. BTT explores the essentials of student-centred learning, good practice in how to plan and facilitate learning, and the fundamentals of effective feedback and reflecting on teaching practice. The program also gives participants the opportunity to plan, present, and evaluate a short (‘micro‘) teaching session. Learning Outcomes: This professional learning program is designed to build capabilities at the Foundational level in the sub-domains of the Professional Learning and Capability Enhancement Framework*: • S1-Planning & facilitating student learning • S2-Supporting students • S3-Engaging students • A2-Feedback to students • R1-Reflective practice • F1-Feedback from students • F2-Peer feedback and review • D1-Developing self • D2-Working with and developing others • L2-Application of learning and teaching scholarship. *(https://staff.mq.edu.au/teach/teaching-development-recognition/professional-learning) Program Design: • Delivery: this microcredential is delivered online and at Macquarie University • Learning: synchronous and asynchronous learning activities, micro-teaching session, structured reflection, and action plan • Assessment: completion of learning activities, lesson plan and micro-teaching session, reflection on feedback, and action plan • Volume of learning: 15 hours
